The municipal agency presents the new Intermedia Locals grants, a call for subsidies to intermediation that seeks to promote the installation of businesses and shops in vacant premises in the city. The new call for subsidies aims to promote relations between the owner and the tenant so that they formalise rental contracts under advantageous conditions for both.

The aim of the initiative is to put in contact owners of premises without any economic activity taking place for at least the last 12 months, with entrepreneurs or companies looking for premises. Barcelona Activa will manage the contacts between the people interested, both of the owner and the tenant, and will evaluate the premises and business projects. In addition, the agency will accompany and advise the parties to reach an advantageous agreement for both.

Once the rental contract has been made with the conditions of Intermedia Locals, the owner can apply for subsidies of up to €3,000. The grants will be used to cover expenses related to adaptation or improvement works on the premises, to signing on for utilities or to the contracting of civil liability insurance or for non-payment of rent. 

Intermedia Locals is included with the municipal strategy Amunt Persianes (Raise the shutters) which aims to stimulate economic activity in ground floor premises of Barcelona to reduce their number and promote sustainable employment. The launch of the call for subsidies aims to respond to the problem of empty spaces that many neighbourhoods suffer from and also offer citizens more options for local consumption in small shops.
