The first meeting of the new Board of Directors of Barcelona Activa was used yesterday to appoint Lorenzo Di Pietro as managing director of the economic promotion agency of Barcelona City Council. At the meeting, it was also confirmed that the councillor for Economic Promotion, Work, Feminism and Democratic Memory, Raquel Gil, will take on the presidency of Barcelona Activa.

Di Pietro has extensive experience in the design and implementation of public policies in the field of local development and economic promotion. He joined Barcelona Activa in 2001 and since then has worked as director of the areas of Employment and Human Capital. In the last stage, he assumed the position of executive director of Entrepreneurship, Enterprise and Innovation.

The new managing director of Barcelona Activa has promoted projects such as the MediaTIC incubator, specialised in deep tech, and the IT Academy. He has also promoted the launch of new poles of economic activity and business financing instruments Barcelona Accelera and Deep Tech Fund, of public private partnerships.

The changes in the leadership of the agency have meant that the managing director of Barcelona Activa, up to now, Félix Ortega, has left the position. Ortega has assumed the management of the Ciutat Vella district with the aim of contributing to promoting the new project of transformation and improvement of the central district of Barcelona.

In the wake of the new leadership, Barcelona Activa will continue to focus policies on quality employment, the promotion of talent, the impetus for entrepreneurship, innovation and business growth. In addition, the agency will maintain the line of putting people at the centre of actions and applying public-private management models.
