Barcelona obtains the National Prize for Internal Commerce 2021

The Catalan capital receives an award that recognises commercial urban renewal actions in municipalities with more than 25,000 inhabitants

Barcelona, 17 Dec 2021

The Barcelona City Council has received the 2021 National Award for Internal Commerce. The state distinction has recognised the city's Commercial Urban Renewal Plan, which includes different initiatives with the participation of Barcelona Activa, such as the economic recovery plan "Barcelona never stops". The award is within the framework of the category of city councils with more than 25,000 inhabitants and has awarded the municipal work for turning the city into a benchmark in innovation and sustainability.

To make use of the commercial premises of the city, Barcelona Activa has launched different initiatives. On the one hand, the programme Impulsem el que fas (We boost what you do) has been promoted, which contemplates the granting of subsidies amounting to 3.2 million Euros. The initiative rewards 80% of projects that present a business proposal that involves the purchase or rental of premises at street level.

On the other hand, the programme Amunt persianes (Raise the shutters) has also been put into operation, an initiative focused on the purchase of empty ground floor premises to create a pool of available public spaces with a budget of 17 million Euros. In addition, with regard to employment, subsidies for an amount of 5,000 Euros have been given to companies that hire a full-time worker for a minimum of six months.
