Barcelona gives life to the city's shop windows

Barcelona City Council allocates 1 million Euros to boost the city’s shops with the implementation of shutters

Barcelona, 18 May 2022

Barcelona wants to bring the city’s shop windows to life by boosting the programme Aparadors vius (Living Shop Windows). The initiative will count on a budget of one million Euros in order to change the shutters that close the premises and thus improve the external attractiveness of the city’s commerce and the shopping streets.

The call for subsidies is part of the Amunt Persianes strategy (Raise the shutters) for the commercial reactivation of the city. It will be possible to include the premises that change their opaque blinds for others that allow the interior to be seen with the shutters down. The replacement of each shutter can have a maximum subsidy of 2,000 Euros and the limit per applicant will be 6,000 Euros. Interested shops can submit their application until 30th September, 2022.

Aparadors Vius’ (Living Shop Windows) aims to improve the attractiveness of the shops and make it easier for the shop windows and the shop’s products to be visible outside of opening hours and 24 hours a day. The programme seeks to differentiate the premises with economic activity from those that do not have them, to prevent the anti-social behaviour of the graffiti and to give more vitality to the streets with a strong commercial fabric.
