Barcelona Activa is launching a new edition of the Marina Port Sailor training course, a programme designed to train people interested in the maritime-port sector and expand their opportunities to enter the labour market. The aim of the course is to provide the skills required to work as a marina port sailor in a sector with growing demand for professionals and strong future prospects.

The training is primarily aimed at unemployed people registered with the Catalan Employment Service (Servei d’Ocupació de Catalunya) and individuals interested in pursuing a career in this sector. Participants are also required to have open-water swimming skills, as the programme includes practical activities related to sea survival.

The course combines technical content with professional competencies linked to port activities. The programme includes training in the preparation of recreational boats for maintenance work, vessel manoeuvring in port, basic nautical English, customer service and service quality, as well as basic maritime safety training. The course concludes with a module of non-employment-based practical training.

The programme will run from April 9 to July 10, 2026, with a total duration of 345 hours distributed across 60 in-person sessions. The sessions will mainly take place at the Institut de la Nàutica de Barcelona, as well as at Porta22, Escola Port, and other venues to be determined during the development of the course.

No academic qualifications or previous professional experience are required to participate. However, a minimum B1 level of English is requested, and priority will be given to applicants who are residents of the city of Barcelona.
