Barcelona Activa and the Association of Catalan Journalists join forces to boost the sector’s digitalisation, training and careers advice

The objective is to create training programmes specifically in digital skills, oral and written expression workshops, or entrepreneurship in the journalism sector

Barcelona, 18 Nov 2020

Barcelona Activa and the Association of Catalan Journalists have signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen digitalisation, training, and careers advice for journalism’s professionals and Catalan communications.

In particular, Barcelona Activa will create training programmes specifically in the areas of digital skills, detecting fake news, oral and written expression workshops, or entrepreneurship in the journalism sector, to provide resources to the sector’s professionals in the uncertain, changing post-Covid context.

Also to be created will be a new training programme inside the Antenes Cibernàrium, in relation with media literacy, designed for the ageing population to know how to detect and not be victims of fake news, taught by a collegiate member.

Furthermore, both institutions will conduct a study to evaluate the state of journalism and communications in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, to detect new niche professions and understand the evolution of professional opportunities, especially in the digital sector.

The basis of the agreement goes much further than training, and aims to contribute to guaranteeing reliable information, where citizens and contributors of the economic fabric would have access to all information, which would be of the best quality.
