The second edition of the programme promoted together with Costa Cruceros and the Port of Barcelona has boosted a dozen blue economy initiatives

Barcelona, 23 Oct 2023

The B-Blue programme has closed its second edition with the presentation of awards to the most innovative and sustainable projects. The initiative supports innovative start-ups within the framework of the blue economy with the aim of helping them validate the business model and accompany them in the growth stage.

B-Blue is promoted by Barcelona Activa in collaboration with Costa Cruceros and the Port of Barcelona. The programme aims to promote blue economy business projects that grow sustainable maritime activity in Barcelona and create new employment and business competitiveness. In the second edition, 12 different start-ups participated in the training sessions, networking, personalised tutorials and mentoring.

The closing ceremony of the programme served to recognise two companies that represent a benefit for the marine ecosystem and that have a high business potential. Titanium has been awarded as the most sustainable initiative, thanks to a project that allows the cleaning of biological waste. The award, given by Costa Cruceros, has assessed that the company avoids biofouling on any submerged surface without generating chemical waste.

The other award, given by the Port of Barcelona, recognised Solar Box as the most innovative initiative, for a project that creates batteries for boats. The company has developed its own technology for electric mobility for nautical use. The two award-winning start-ups received a cheque for 10,000 euros each, which they must use to consolidate their businesses.
