The BioSpain 2023 fair has become the stage for taking stock of the first year and a half of the BCN Health Booster. A programme promoted by Barcelona City Council, the Parc Científic de Barcelona (The Barcelona Science Park), Barcelona Activa and Biocat which took advantage of the congress in Barcelona to organise a presentation event with participating start-ups. In the talk, the main indicators of the initiative were presented and some of the projects that form part shared their experience.

The BCN Health Booster is aimed at companies in the health sector to boost the growth process for three years. It includes access to their own laboratory at the Barcelona Science Park and also participation in a specialised acceleration programme given by Biocat.

The talk at BioSpain analysed the first edition of the programme, which counted on 11 participating start-ups: Adaptel, ArtificialNature, Bioliquid, DeepUllDiagnostics, GAT Biosciences, GAT Therapeutics, Mimark, NuageTherapeutics, Ona Therapeutics, Zymvol and OneChain.

The director of Biocat, Maria Terrades, was responsible for presenting the indicators for the launch of the programme. During the first year of activity, the participating projects received up to 184 hours of mentoring each. In addition, the companies grew by 32 more workers and secured 51.2 million euros in investment rounds during 2022.

Barcelona Activa's operational director of Entrepreneurship, Montse Basora, also wanted to emphasise Barcelona Activa's commitment to "strengthen the biotechnological sector". That is why the programme has been launched, following the municipal line of "diversifying the economic model, fostering the city's scientific and technological talent and promoting innovation".
