Barcelona Activa’s Creamedia programme supports entrepreneurship projects in the creative and cultural industries by offering advice and training to start-ups

Barcelona, 02 Sep 2020

Barcelona Activa’s Creamedia programme supports entrepreneurship projects in the creative and cultural industries by offering advice and training to start-ups. Its mission is to promote creative talent in the city of Barcelona, underpin the creative sectors, and provide a space for enterprising people to develop their projects.

Barcelona Activa has collaborated with the Business Development Service of the ICEC (Catalan Institute of Cultural Businesses) and the Fundació Catalunya Cultura (Catalonia Culture Foundation), to reinvent this year's edition of Creamedia, and back the creative sector with new supportive content and virtual training adapted to the new reality brought about by the covid-19 crisis.

New approaches and valuable content have been identified to provide the support and training for the shortlisted projects and the beneficiaries of the programme.

Fourteen finalist projects have been selected from almost 70 entries this year. The selected projects will relocate to the new facilities at the Almogàvers Incubator. All the projects are focused on developing products or services for the audio-visual sector, the design sector, and support platforms for the creative and cultural industries.

The shortlisted projects are: Publishing Scope Music, Ecosneak, In Crime Content, Barcelona Miquel, Tundra Studio, Reolivar, Filmpedia, Barcelona al Azar, Versatil, Weekndr.tv, Laurence Diana, Dublab Barcelona, CameraShare and Artechsel.

The creative sector in the city

The data for 2019 shows how the creative industries have become a strategic area of activity for Barcelona Activa and the municipal government. In fact, the creative industries account for 13.4% of the jobs in Barcelona, and the city accounts for 51.1% of all jobs in Catalonia.
