The new Start-up Law arrives in Barcelona

The entrepreneurial ecosystem of the city has gathered together in the presentation of the new legislation that has just been approved by the Spanish Congress

Barcelona, 16 Feb 2023

The auditorium of the headquarters of Barcelona Activa hosted the official presentation of the State Start-up law that has just been promoted by the Spanish government. The agency served as a meeting point for the city's entrepreneurial ecosystem, which attended the event to learn about the new regulatory framework.

Barcelona Activa organised the conference together with other institutional actors and entities, such as the department Acció of the Generalitat and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation of the Spanish government, Tech Barcelona and Barcelona Global. The third Deputy Mayor and president of Barcelona Activa, Laia Bonet, welcomed the attendees and noted the desire to position the city as a benchmark hub for national and international talent.

The High Commissioner promoting the law, Francisco Polo, presented the law and explained that it seeks to boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem that focuses on three axes: the revolution of talent, investment and the public sector. The new regulatory framework seeks to promote talent through the extension of visas for entrepreneurs, attract investment with less bureaucracy and more incentives in the initial stages. It also aims to strengthen the relationship with the public sector through temporary licenses and points of access to information on entrepreneurship.

The event also included a roundtable moderated by Barceona Activa's Head of Business Landing, Mònica Madrigal. It was attended by the Director General for Innovation, Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of the Government of Catalonia, Lluís Juncà, the CEO of Barcelona Global, Mercè Conesa, and the president of Tech Barcelona, Miguel Vicente.

The new Start-up law fits in with Barcelona Activa's line of promoting the entrepreneurial ecosystem with the boosting, attraction and retention of new talent. If you want to start up a business in the city, you can consult all the programmes and services of the agency.
