Barcelona, 08 Jun 2020

In an effort to mitigate the repercussions of the covid-19 crisis, Barcelona City Council will allocate € 7.5 million in loans and subsidies to reactivate the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and local neighbourhood economies. The goal is to protect 500 jobs, and the aid will be provided in the form of loans, credits and also consultancy services.

Within the framework of the action plan, € 1 million will be earmarked to subsidise the SSE through the allocation of grants to social economy projects under the umbrella of the 'Enfortim l’ESS' campaign. Another € 1.76 million will be dedicated to boosting the local economy through the fourth 'Impulsem el que Fas' tender managed by Barcelona Activa, reaching a total spend of € 2.76 million between the two. 'Impulsem el que fas' subsidises up to 80% of the cost of accepted projects, which must fall into one of seven different categories earmarked for aid:

  1. Boosting business activity in the territory.
  2. Creating quality employment in the territory.
  3. Innovation in social economy projects.
  4. Digital social innovation in the territory.
  5. Responsible and sustainable tourism.
  6. Sustainable agri-food models and responsible consumption.
  7. Reactivation of local economic activity in the vulnerable neighbourhoods identified by the Pla de Barris (Neighbourhood Plan).

At this time of economic reconstruction, Barcelona Activa has also been promoting the 'Aixequem l'ESS' service to offer personalised support during the covid-19 crisis. The project has a budget of € 100,000 and expects to assist 350 companies. The primary objective of these lines of aid is to strengthen the SSE and expand its scope to cover the whole of the city.
