We are launching a new Blue Economy website

Barcelona Activa presents a benchmark website to boost and promote the blue sectors as a new economic hub for the city

Barcelona, 16 Mar 2022

Barcelona Activa is launching a new website on the Blue Economy, a strategic sector for the city, which accounts for 4.3% of the city’s GDP and 1.4% of the employment. The website will serve to give voice to the more than 1,100 companies that make it up and aims to enhance job opportunities. The blue economy encompasses economic activities related to aquatic areas compatible with the conservation of the marine ecosystems.

The goal of the government measure focuses on defining the strategy for boosting the blue economy in Barcelona. Barcelona City Council, in collaboration with Barcelona Activa, has established a roadmap to implement through a new economic plan for the next five years. The proposal includes a set of measures and projects to regain ambition and harness the full potential of the city.

The economic plan consists of eight fields of action, such as establishing a new pole of economic activity and innovation, blue employment and training, innovation and transfer and the development of these sectors. It also aims to foster links between the Blue Economy and the city and its citizens, the conservation and regeneration of the marine ecosystem, local and international promotion and participatory governance.

The actions are complemented by two leading projects such as the new Olympic Port and the Nautical Training and Technology Node, economic activities from 12 different sectors, 13 outstanding projects and 43 measures.
