The economy for sustainability, key to the future of Barcelona

The City Council has presented a roadmap to draw up a strategy with the economic fabric and accelerate the path towards the ecological transition with a 2030 horizon

Barcelona, 20 Jan 2023

Institutions and governments everywhere are faced with the challenge of moving towards a change of model that promotes the ecological transition. And the Barcelona City Council has responded with the roadmap for the Economy for Sustainability in Barcelona 2030. A new strategy that proposes how to promote a sustainable economy in all activity sectors of the city.

The roadmap identifies six strategic sectors that drive the green, blue and circular economy and are key to the decarbonisation of the economy: industry, tourism, construction and infrastructure, mobility and transport, energy and commerce, consumption and food. The municipal commitment seeks to transform towards a more sustainable production model, identify employment opportunities, support companies and foster new business models.

The City Council held an event to present the road map in Ca l’Alier, the headquarters of municipal urban innovation. The event focused on presenting the strategy, promoted with the collaboration of the entities and the whole of the city's ecosystem that make it possible to carry it out.

The roadmap is part of the drive and promotion of the sustainability of the economic sectors within the framework of the Barcelona Green Deal and the Barcelona 2030 economic agenda. Currently, the city has more than 56,000 jobs linked to the green economy and 1,800 organisations are members of the network Barcelona + Sostenible (More sustainable Barcelona).
