The Barcelona City Council is providing businesses with subsidies of 5,000 euros to boost job creation and to generate new professional opportunities for unemployed people. The contracts must be for full-time work, and a minimum of 6 months, while the employee must be an official resident of Barcelona.

The subsidies are intended for companies based in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona that are unaffected by processes of employment regulation and also have the capacity to expand.

To confront the current economic context provoked by the Covid-19 crisis, the total budget of the ‘Crea Feina, Barcelona!’ programme is 1.5 million euros. An estimated 300 businesses which have the capacity to expand will be eligible for subsidies, up to a maximum of ten new contracts per company.

First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City Council Jaume Collboni states that the ‘Crea Feina, Barcelona!’ programme forms part of the strategy developed to reactivate the economy, with its objective to reduce unemployment by creating new jobs as soon as possible: “We must act with force and speed to guarantee quality jobs to the unemployed”.

Businesses interested can inquire via the website barcelonactiva.cat/creafeina where all requirements are stated. Applications are open until the 20th of November 2020.
