The Cases d'Oficis (Trade Skills Houses), a programme to promote youth employment

The training and work programme for young people has achieved that 73% of the participants in the last two editions have found work

Barcelona, 29 Jun 2022

The Cases d'Oficis (Trade Skills Houses) programme is to be congratulated: 73% of participants during the period 2020-21 have entered the labour market. The Barcelona Activa initiative is aimed at young people, especially those who have left school and cannot find work. In addition, the programme offers new opportunities to people under 30 in a situation of vulnerability, whether economic, social or functional diversity, which makes it difficult to enter the labour market.

In the last period, the programme hosted 88 participants and more than seven out of ten have already found work. The training experience consists of 6 months of internships and a further 6 months of temporary employment. Youths participating in the field of shows or spectacles have been the ones to most easily find a job, 84%, followed by the specialisation of sustainability, with 78%, and digitalisation, with 56%.

The participants in the Trades Skills Houses are mostly derived from the Servei d'Ocupació de Catalunya (SOC – The Employment Service of Catalonia), which subsidises the project through the Work in the Neighbourhoods programme. Barcelona City Council also collaborates through the Districts, the Municipal Institutes such as Parks and Gardens, and Culture, the Area for Children Adolescents and Youth and the Management Area of Urban Ecology.  Furthermore, BSM also participates through Barcelona Zoo and the Consortium of Education, among others.
