Barcelona, World Capital in Time Policies

The city has become an international benchmark in time use and will act as a representative for the Network of Local and Regional Governments

Barcelona, 06 Apr 2022

Barcelona will act as the first World Capital of Time Policies. The Network of Local and Regional Governments has promoted its creation with the aim of generating more awareness and giving visibility to time policies to extend their positive impacts on citizens.

The presentation of the different events that will make up the Capital 2022-2023 was held on 5th April in the Saló de Cent of Barcelona City Hall. Throughout the year, the city is organising events to raise public awareness about time policies and for these to be perceived as a right of all citizens, both for companies and for society as a whole.

Beyond becoming the pioneering city in the international arena in its commitment towards time policies, Barcelona has also hosted the Time Use Week. Furthermore, the Catalan capital is leading the development of time policies and has also been recognised for the relevance of its actions in the use of time to tackle COVID-19.

The Network of Local and Regional Governments for Time Use Policies is made up of Catalan, French and Italian entities. The organisation aims to share knowledge among members and exchange experiences to improve public management. In this context, the time policies foster changes in the social organisation to meet the time management needs of everyday life and seek solutions that improve the quality of life of people.

One of the projects promoted by the Network is defined in the Time Pact, a municipal initiative that seeks the commitment of the citizens and the City Council itself. The aim focuses on boosting actions related to the use of time that contribute to the reduction of social inequalities.
