Barcelona is making progress in the transformation of old industrial buildings in Eix Besòs and 22@

The project will boost three new poles of activity to diversify the city's economy, generate job opportunities and attract talent and investments

Barcelona, 21 Sep 2022

Barcelona City Council presents a project to transform old industrial buildings in the areas of the Eix Besòs and 22@. The strategy is framed in the purchase of industrial buildings and will focus on activating municipal properties through public-private collaboration. The initiative has been launched to diversify the city's economy, generate new quality jobs and attract talent and new investments.

The council has announced that it will be looking for partners to present leading projects to stay inside the buildings. The proposals will have to help transform industrial spaces in Sagrera-Besòs and 22@, specifically in three buildings on Carrer Ávila and Ciutat d'Asunción and in the Palo Alto area. At the end of September, the City Council will open a new public bid to choose the best proposals.

The three new poles make up a total of 6,808m2 and will have a great diversity of uses. It is expected that the spaces will serve to incubate newly created companies and integrate specialised sector training, business acceleration and business innovation programmes, among others. In addition, they will specialise in the sectors of Industry 4.0, circular economy, urban innovation and creative industries.
