34% of Barcelona's job offers require the mastering of at least one foreign language, according to human resource consultants such as Addecco or Ranstad. Speaking languages has become one of the most valued skills in the labour market, especially in sectors such as retail, tourism and the hospitality sector.

Aware of this need, Barcelona Activa is setting in motion 'Reskilling idiomes', a free training programme for learning and level certification of different languages. The courses will be focused on strategic sectors of the city, so specific training is being promoted in English and French in the work environment.

The initiative has been created through an agreement with the Consorci d'Educació of Barcelona (CEB) and with the collaboration of the Escola Oficial d’Idiomes (EOI) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The places are open to all citizens, but preference will be given to unemployed people or those being furloughed (ERTE). The training will be given online with a duration of between 30 and 100 teaching hours.

On the one hand, different levels will be offered for each language, English (from A1 to C1), French (from A1 to B1), German (from A1 to B1), Italian (from A1 to B1), Russian, Arabic and Chinese. On the other hand, there will be specific language courses for sectors such as hospitality and retail and you can also choose to prepare for exams and obtain an English certification. In addition, a level test will be carried out to find the most appropriate course according to the knowledge of the participants.
