Barcelona City Council lays the foundation stone of the future Creative Industries hub

The works begin in Palo Alto to host a new audiovisual creation and experimentation centre in the city

Barcelona, 09 Jun 2022

Barcelona City Council has today laid the foundation stone of the future 'Palo Alto Creative Industries Lab'. A new hub for Barcelona’s creative industries located in the emblematic 22@ space, with the aim of boosting audiovisual talent in the city. The centre will be operational around June 2023.

The municipal investment will be around 5.5 million Euros and will be used for the rehabilitation of Warehouse ‘E’ of the Palo Alto complex. A commitment that will focus on fostering new technologies in the audiovisual sector and creative industries and business growth in this sector.

The beginning of the works of the facility was celebrated on June 9 with the placement of the first stone and a box in the foundations of the works. The box contains a book with the history of Palo Alto and the plans of the new architectural project. The architects responsible for the project, represented by the business sector and the institutions involved in the definition of the new centre, attended the presentation.

The event also included the participation of the First Deputy Mayor, Jaume Collboni; the Councillor for Tourism and the Creative Industries, Xavier Marcé; the general director of the Palo Alto Foundation, Daniel Romeo; and Managing Director of Barcelona Activa, Fèlix Ortega.

The new hub in Palo Alto will have an area of 1,755m2 distributed in a laboratory, incubation spaces, open modules and spaces for networking. A facility that will place technology at the service of the creative and cultural industries.
