Barcelona Activa has participated in a study that analyses the limitations that women come up against for being promoted in their jobs

Barcelona, 25 Mar 2021

This Wednesday, the study "The sticky floor for women in the city of Barcelona" was presented, produced by professors from the UAB, Pilar Carrasquer Oto and Mariana do Amaral Pinto, with the collaboration of Barcelona Activa.

The main data collected in the report show that 52.6% of women who work in the city are limited in their ability to be promoted in their workplace due to a set of structural factors, ten points above the percentage of men. And the proportion increases if factors such as being a migrant or not having higher education are added.

The study focuses on four essential and highly feminised subsectors, with precarious working conditions, are poorly paid and in which there is lack of promotion scales in their jobs: the cleaning of buildings, hospitality and restaurants, and home care services. Of these, the weight of the lowest categories, the so-called "sticky floor", represents 56.5% of employment. In the case of cleaning, 9 out of 10 people hired do so within the category considered to be the most precarious.

With the aim of reversing this situation, from Barcelona Activa we will continue working to advance towards effective equality between men and women at all levels. You can consult the complete study here.
