Barcelona Activa contributes to the economic reactivation of Nou Barris

On the 3rd and 4th of December, the conference “Economic development of Nou Barris: challenges and opportunities” will take place, which will gather reflections and proposals from the Barcelona City Council, entities and businesses.

Barcelona, 30 Nov 2020

On the 3th and 4th of December, the Nou Barris district will hold the conference “Economic development of Nou Barris: challenges and opportunities”, serving as a participative space which brings together reflections and proposals from the territory’s different agents, contributing to the preparation of the new Economic Development Plan for the District 2021-2023.

The conference will be virtual - given the current pandemic - and will consist of three roundtable discussions. Those participating will be representatives from the Barcelona City Council and Barcelona Activa, who will explain the municipal strategy with respect to the boosting and implementation of economic promotion policies, as well as representatives from entities and businesses who will talk about their experiences. A guided final reflection will allow the gathering of contributions on new strategies regarding economic reactivation.

Thus, the conference looks to be a space to reflect about public policies which are being implemented, to define the opportunities which generate synergies between the private and public sector, to incentivise discussion and the creation of new lines of work, and to lay out proposals for alliances between the agents involved.

The reason for the conference

The current situation resulting from the covid-19 pandemic creates a new setting with the economic crisis at the forefront. However, this setting can be put into a new context of generating opportunities, where the need to reinvent itself is fundamental.

This is a key moment to define these new opportunities, as well as the synergies and formulas of collaboration between the private and public sector, which is fundamental when addressing local economic development. Nou Barris was severely affected by the impact of the 2008 economic crisis, and the district’s economic development has since become one of its main challenges.

In the face of this situation, the Barcelona City Council believes it is necessary to analyse, reflect and share proposals which aim to address the new economic realities in different ways, from a local perspective as well as from the eyes of the District.
