140 volunteers help job-seekers to find work through a mentoring network launched by Barcelona Activa

90% of unemployed people who participate in Mentoring+ are 45 or older, and 60% are women

Barcelona, 24 Nov 2020

Barcelona Activa has brought together 140 mentors from the Mentoring+ programme on a virtual platform for the network’s second convention in order to reactivate employment. The mentors of this programme voluntarily assist people over 40 in their search for a job in order to increase their chances of success.

During 16 editions of the Mentoring+ programme, a network of mentors have been offering their time to assist and advise job-seekers yearly, establishing close relationships and sharing their knowledge and experiences. Unlike other editions, this time, the mentors and participants have had to meet via videoconference, due to the pandemic.

During the event, particular value was placed on the mentors’ engagement - considering the current situation - and their commitment to helping those most in need. The ceremony included testimonies from the volunteers, as well as an inspirational conference hosted by cultural journalist Eva Piquer. A new edition gets underway

Throughout the programme’s 16 editions, a total of 250 unemployed people actively looking for work have benefitted. 90% of people who have called for assistance are over 45 years old - of which, 60% are women and nearly 20% are people without education or only primary education. The Barcelona City Council and Barcelona Activa are already working on making a new edition whilst striving to strengthen all occupational programmes, especially after the pandemic.
