Barcelona Activa joins the fight for the elimination of Violence against Women

The City Council and the agency commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November with events and workshops

Barcelona, 24 Nov 2022

Barcelona Activa joins the day of vindications for the elimination of violence against women. Barcelona City Council, through the agency and its own activities, joins the commemorations and events within the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November.

During the day, Barcelona Activa and the City Council will collaborate in the event organised by the UGT trade union under the title 'Sexual harassment due to sex in the workplace is violence against women'. The meeting will be attended by public representatives such as the Commissioner for Employment Promotion and Policies Against Precariousness, Raquel Gil; the Secretary of Feminism of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Montserrat Pineda; and the general secretary of UGT Catalunya, Camil Ros.

With the aim of denouncing the inequalities and violence that women suffer in the workplace, in recent days Barcelona Activa has also published 'Closing the gender gap in strategic sector in the city of Barcelona'. A report that shows, for example, that women only represent 17.2% on the Boards of Directors of Catalan companies with more than 250 employees. It also explains that the wage gap in Barcelona is above the European average (13% in 2020), although slightly below the rest of Spain (18.4%).

As part of 25-N, Barcelona Activa also works for gender equality through other activities such as the training course STOP! Sexual harassments in organisations. In addition, the agency normally promotes the programme LIDERA, which accompanies working women, female managers and businesswomen so that they can guide their own professional future and achieve their goals.
