Barcelona Activa and Valencia Activa have reached a Collaboration Agreement to implement a set of projects to boost the economic recovery by promoting digitalisation and sustainability. The two economic development agencies, with the support of the city councils of Barcelona and Valencia, have signed a pact to work together on the transformation of local commerce and restaurants, especially affected by the pandemic.

As has happened in other cities, Barcelona and Valencia have suffered a reduction in economic activity during the pandemic and the lockdown due to Covid-19.  This period has led to an evolution of work and consumption habits and has promoted remote work, online shopping and a more responsible mobility with the environment. Faced with these challenges, the two capitals have sought to strengthen cooperation with the aim of recovering lost jobs and businesses.

The collaboration also established the fact that the initiative "Local Economy 2030, support for the digital and sustainable transition of the local economy of Barcelona and Valencia" will be developed jointly. Thus, the two cities will jointly present around twenty projects to the European Next Generation funds and will support each other so as to respond to business and citizen challenges.

Through these funds, Barcelona Activa will continue to promote projects such as the business reactivation plans, Rethinking, and the onsite and online activities for the digitalisation of commerce and restaurants. Technological training will also be strengthened to improve the skills of citizens with the courses in the Cibernàrium and advanced ICT specialisations in the IT Academy.
