Barcelona is looking for businesses and cultural projects to boost the neighbourhoods

The City Council activates two calls to attract initiatives for 36 municipal premises on the ground floor purchased as part of the 'Amunt Persianes' (Raise the Shutters) strategy

Barcelona, 11 Oct 2022

Barcelona City Council has promoted two new calls for attracting projects and boosting ground floor premises from the city. The launch of the programme is part of the economic and commercial reactivation strategy Amunt Persianes (Raise the Shutters).  The initiative aims to boost the neighbourhoods commercially and socially by offering rents for economic activities at below-market prices.

The programme offers a total of 36 premises, 9 of which are in Ciutat Vella and the rest are spread across the different neighbourhoods of the city. The general call has 27 small, medium and large spaces that will be assigned to businesses in the strategic economic sectors of each district. The remaining 9 municipal premises will be used for creation, production, exhibition or cultural marketing projects.

The purchasing and activating of these premises aims to facilitate the promotion and consolidation of economic projects in the city that can benefit from rents below the market price. The council will select economic, commercial, cultural and social projects that are economically viable and that can generate synergies with the neighbourhood, with a positive impact on the environment.

The duration of the contract will depend on the characteristics of the premises and will last between 5, 7 and 10 years, with a two-year extension in all three cases. The period for the submission of projects will be open until 20th January, 2023 and the first call will be decided before the summer.
