11 projects start up the blue economy support programme

Barcelona Activa is launching a specific programme for blue and sustainable start-ups with the aim of accompanying them in the growth of their projects

Barcelona, 26 Oct 2022

Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa and in collaboration with the Port of Barcelona and Costa Cruceros, is launching the first edition of the blue economy support programmeThe programme hosts and advises 11 projects in the blue economy sector that want to develop and validate their business models.

After intensive seminars and tests, 11 business projects have been selected that will receive mentoring, training, resources and networking from Barcelona Activa and the programme partners: UPC, the Nautical Cluster and Seastainable Ventures. After 3 months, two start-ups will receive an award of 10,000 Euros each as the most sustainable and the most innovative. The first activity of the programme started with a meeting with people and investment groups on board the ship Costa Smeralda.

The launch of the programme is within the framework of the strategy for boosting the Blue Economy promoted by the City Council. The promotion of new businesses in the blue sector aims to create quality employment and is also part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Costa Cruceros in November 2021. The agreement focuses on launching joint initiatives for the economic and sustainable development of the city.

The 11 projects that will participate in the programme are Toroi Marine, Softwarine, Keep Boat Afloat, Meditmin, Noster, SOSBag, 3D Port,  Sup2Go, Blue Jobs, Big Blue and Share Your Board.
