Barcelona City Council is working on reactivating the Besós Axis industrial estates

The city council is allocating 6 million Euros to purchase the industrial warehouses in the Bon Pastor neighbourhood to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in the area

Barcelona, 15 Sep 2021

Within the framework of the Future Strategy for the Besós Axis industrial estates, Barcelona City Council is allocating 6 million Euros to purchase the industrial warehouses in the Bon Pastor neighbourhood. The investment aims to provide the industrial area with the necessary infrastructure to improve the competitiveness of the companies that are installed there.

The project focuses on accelerating the digital and energy transformation of the small and medium-sized enterprises of the Besós Axis industrial estates.  An area with more than 750 SMEs that generate more than 10,000 jobs and that face major challenges for the future in the new economic context.

Following the purchase of the spaces, the initiative will be strengthened with the implementation of leading projects linked to the boosting of Industry 4.0 and the circular and sustainable economy. In addition, links with other sectors and strategic activities of the city will be reinforced so as to generate the optimal conditions to attract new investments and talent.

The selection of the warehouses will be done through a benchmarking process in which the spaces closest to la Mercedes factory will be prioritised, the ones which are well preserved to be able to implement new activity and with an area of more than 2,000 square metres. The measure is part of the Barcelona Green Deal strategy and is aimed at recovering spaces that have been waiting to be transformed for years.
